Vocal Technique, Song Performance, Music Preparation,

Joel
received his M.F.A from the NYU Graduate Musical Theater
Writing Program. While there, he was honored with the ASCAP
Max Dreyfus Award for promise as a musical theater composer
for 2009-2010. He has recently written a bluegrass rock
musical, CAROLINA BREEZE, with words by Lori Mannette, as
well as a indie-folk one-act musical THIS IS US, with book
and co-written lyrics by Leah Miles.
Joel received his B.A. from the University of Northern
Iowa with a double major in Vocal Performance and
Violin. He has played roles such as Gianni Schicci,
Al DeLuca in A CHORUS LINE, Sweeney in SWEENEY TODD, and
performed in the world premiere of the new opera TRIUMPHANT
LOVE by Dr. Alan Schmitz as Muzio, a baritone and gypsy
violinist. Joel's work has been featured in William
Finn's concert series "Ridiculously Talented Composers and
Lyricists You Probably Don't Know, But Should..." at
Barrington Stages in 2009, as well as several other
cabarets. He has music directed many shows including
Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, FOOTLOOSE, CATS, INTO THE
WOODS, JOSEPH, FOREVER PLAID, and many broadway revues and
cabarets.
In 2006-07, Joel traveled to Costa Rica as a part of the
"Promising Young Artists of the 21st Century" series
performing broadway music and presenting master classes and
concerts.
