Mara Newbery, BFA, AEA
Dance
Mara is currently the female swing for the 2010-11 SHREK
national tour. She has worked extensively for the North
Shore Music Theatre, performing in LES MISERABLES (u/s
Eponine),BYE BYE BIRDIE (Ursula, u/s Rose, Asst to the
Choreographer), 42nd STREET (Anytime Annie, Dance Captain,
Asst. to the Choreographer), and the New England premiere
of HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2 (Dance Captain, Asst to the
Choreographer). Regionally, she has been seen in
GREASE(Cha-Cha), BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (Silly Girl), THE
FULLY MONTY (Susan Hershey), WHITE CHRISTMAS (Quintet),
OKLAHOMA!, and CATS (Rumpleteazer, Dance Captain).
Choreography: FIDDLER ON THE ROOF and TOMMY. Assistant
Choreographer: AINT MISBEHEAVIN', COMPANY, CITY OF ANGELS.
Teaching: 360 Dance (tap, jazz, ballet, modern, technique,
hip hop), University of Michigan (Hip Hop and Jazz), MPulse
Summer Program.
Mara grew up in Louisville, KY where she went to the Youth
Performing Art High School, majoring in Musical Theatre.
For two summers, she attended Ann Reinking's Broadway
Theatre Project in Tampa, FL. She trained and taught at 360
Dance, and while there won several national championships
(UDA All Star Jazz, Company Dance National Champion, Kids
Artistic Review National Title, Showbiz Nationals). She has
won numerous scholarships (LA Dance Force, Company Dance,
West Coast Dance Explosion, Tremaine, Kids Artistic Review)
and has served as an Assistant Teacher, Apprentice, and is
now a member of Company Dance's Hall of Fame. She has taken
class from some of the top choreographers in the nation and
assistant taught for Nick Florez, Gregg Russell, Judy Rice,
Chebar Williams, Lauren Gottlieb, Blake McGrath, Kenny
Wormald, Barry Youngblood, Nancy O'Meara, and Tyce Dioro.
Mara holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from the University of
Michigan.
